The rutting period

As every year, in summer, mating season of the bison began. This year, mating behavior was observed earlier than usual - in the second half of July! During the rutting period males change areas, whereas they usually remain rather in one place around a small area. Now they take long journeys in search of females, often travelling several kilometres per day. Depending on the age and condition of the male, they can change their strategy to find females to breed with. The largest and most handsome bulls roam the entire forest, the other showing an interest in females, located just near to the area or just moving along with the entire herd.
